Indications
Atacand is indicated for the treatment of arterial hypertension in adults. It is also used in chronic heart failure, in combination with other medications, to improve cardiac function and patient quality of life. Candesartan works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, which causes blood vessel dilation and thus lowers blood pressure. This medication can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensives depending on the patient's clinical need.
Composition
Each Atacand tablet contains 8 mg of candesartan cilexetil as the active ingredient. Excipients include: microcrystalline cellulose, lactose, starch, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Atacand is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to candesartan or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered to patients with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs). Furthermore, it is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions
Special care should be taken in patients with renal failure, renal artery stenosis, or those undergoing diuretic treatment. It is important to monitor renal function and potassium levels during treatment. In patients with dehydration or hypovolemia, treatment should be initiated with low doses and adjusted according to clinical response. Its use in pediatric patients is not recommended.
