Indications
Atacand (candesartan) is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. The reduction in blood pressure is associated with a decreased risk of cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction and stroke. Additionally, candesartan is used in the treatment of chronic heart failure as adjunctive therapy to improve cardiac function and quality of life in patients.
Composition
Each Atacand tablet contains 8 mg of candesartan cilexetil as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that allow for the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Atacand is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to candesartan or any other component of the formulation. It should not be administered during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters, due to potential risks to the fetus. It is also contraindicated in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or stenosis in a solitary kidney.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of angioedema, renal insufficiency, or hepatic insufficiency. It is important to monitor renal function when initiating treatment or increasing the dose. In diabetic patients or those with cardiovascular disease, the risk of hypotension should be evaluated when initiating treatment.
Storage
Store the medication in its original packaging, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 °C.
