Indications

Aromasin (exemestane) is indicated as adjuvant treatment in postmenopausal women with early-stage hormone-dependent breast cancer, who have completed tamoxifen therapy for 2 to 3 years. It is also indicated in the treatment of advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women, when the disease has progressed after tamoxifen therapy.

The mechanism of action of exemestane is based on the inhibition of aromatase, which results in a decrease in circulating estrogen levels. This reduction in estrogen is crucial in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, as it helps slow the growth of tumor cells that depend on these hormones to proliferate.

Composition

Each Aromasin tablet contains 25 mg of exemestane as the active ingredient. Additionally, it includes excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.

Contraindications

Aromasin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to exemestane or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in women of childbearing age, as the use of this medication during pregnancy may cause harm to the fetus.

Precautions

Regular monitoring of liver function is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease. Additionally, caution should be exercised in patients with a history of venous thromboembolism. The use of Aromasin in combination with medications that may affect its metabolism is not recommended without proper medical supervision.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place and protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
