Indications
Aldactone (Spironolactone) is indicated in the treatment of essential hypertension, as well as in the management of congestive heart failure, where fluid reduction is required. It is also used in the treatment of edema associated with hepatic cirrhosis and nephrotic syndrome. Spironolactone acts as a potassium-sparing diuretic, helping to prevent hypokalemia that may result from the use of potassium-losing diuretics. Additionally, it is indicated in the treatment of hirsutism in women, due to its antiandrogenic activity.
Composition
Each Aldactone tablet contains 25 mg of spironolactone as the active ingredient. Excipients include: starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Aldactone is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to spironolactone or any of the excipients in the formula. It is also contraindicated in those with hyperkalemia, acute renal failure, or in cases of anuria. It should not be administered during pregnancy, unless strictly necessary.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with liver disease, diabetes mellitus, or those taking other medications that may affect potassium levels. It is important to monitor renal function and serum potassium levels during treatment with spironolactone.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
