Indications
Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) is indicated as a treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in combination with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. This medication acts as a GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist, which helps to increase insulin secretion in response to hyperglycemia and to decrease hepatic glucose production. In addition, Mounjaro has been observed to contribute to weight reduction in overweight or obese patients with type 2 diabetes.
Composition
Each Mounjaro vial contains: 5 mg of tirzepatide as active ingredient and excipients necessary for the formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to tirzepatide or any of the excipients. It should not be used in patients with a history of acute pancreatitis or in those with type 1 diabetes.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of pancreatic disease, as well as in those with compromised renal or hepatic function. It is important to monitor patients' blood glucose and regularly follow up on their condition. The use of Mounjaro may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, especially if used in combination with other medications that also lower blood glucose.
Storage
Store in refrigeration between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Keep the medication out of reach of children and protect it from light.
