Indications
Zyprexa is indicated for the treatment of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In the case of schizophrenia, it is used for acute and maintenance treatment. In bipolar disorder, it is used in both manic and mixed episodes. In addition, it has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of aggression and agitation in patients with mental disorders. It is important that the use of Zyprexa be supervised by a physician and that regular follow-ups are performed to evaluate treatment response and the appearance of adverse effects.
Composition
Each Zyprexa tablet contains 5 mg of olanzapine as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as lactose monohydrate, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, among others that facilitate its formulation.
Contraindications
Zyprexa is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to olanzapine or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use should also be avoided in patients with a history of agranulocytosis episodes or severe liver disease.
Precautions
Special precautions should be taken in patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, or a history of seizures. Likewise, it is important to be careful when using Zyprexa in the elderly and in those patients who are taking other medications that may enhance its sedative effects.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
