Indications
Zyprexa (olanzapine) is indicated for the treatment of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In the treatment of schizophrenia, Zyprexa helps reduce the intensity of symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and thought disturbances. In bipolar disorder, it is used as a mood stabilizer, helping to prevent manic and depressive episodes. It can also be used in the treatment of acute manic episodes and in the management of mixed episodes.
Composition
Each Zyprexa tablet contains 10 mg of olanzapine as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients that allow for its proper formulation and preservation.
Contraindications
Zyprexa is not recommended for use in patients with known hypersensitivity to olanzapine or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of severe adverse reactions, such as anaphylaxis, after olanzapine administration.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Zyprexa to patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases, liver problems, diabetes mellitus, or a history of seizures. Regular monitoring of body weight and blood glucose levels is important, as Zyprexa can induce weight gain and metabolic alterations. Furthermore, risks in elderly patients and those with dementia should be considered.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
