Indications
Zoladex (Goserelin) is indicated for the treatment of certain types of prostate cancer in men, as well as for the treatment of endometriosis and uterine fibroids in women. It is also used in adjuvant hormone therapy in patients with hormone-dependent breast cancer. The medication works by decreasing testosterone levels in men and estrogen levels in women, which can be beneficial in managing these conditions.
Composition
Each Zoladex syringe contains 10.8 mg of Goserelin, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue, which acts on the pituitary gland to suppress the production of sex hormones.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Goserelin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to patients with active pituitary tumors or those with severe liver function impairment.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Zoladex to patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, as it may increase the risk of cardiovascular events. Additionally, it is important to monitor patients for possible adverse reactions and adjust treatment as necessary. Administration of this medication can cause menopausal symptoms in women and androgenic effects in men, so these possibilities should be considered during treatment.
Storage
Zoladex should be stored at controlled temperatures, between 2°C and 8°C, in its original packaging to protect it from light. It should not be frozen and must be kept out of reach of children.
