Indications
Zedesen (ceftibuten) is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in various locations, including upper respiratory tract infections, such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis, as well as lower respiratory tract infections, such as bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. It is also used in the treatment of middle ear infections, such as acute otitis media, and in uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Its action is based on the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in the death of susceptible bacteria.
Composition
Each ml of suspension contains 36 mg of ceftibuten (as ceftibuten dihydrate) and excipients q.s.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ceftibuten or any of the components of the formula. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of allergic reactions to other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Precautions
It should be used with caution in patients with a history of kidney disease or in those receiving treatments that may affect kidney function. It is important to monitor kidney function during treatment. In patients with a history of colitis, the risk of antibiotic-associated colitis should be considered.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature, protected from light. After opening, the suspension should be used within a specific period of time, according to the manufacturer's instructions.
