Indications
Zactos is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medication is used in patients who cannot adequately control their glucose through diet and exercise alone, and it can be used in combination with other oral antidiabetics or with insulin.
Pioglitazone works by increasing insulin sensitivity in tissues, which promotes glucose uptake and utilization, helping to reduce blood sugar levels. It is important for patients to maintain regular medical follow-up to evaluate treatment efficacy and make adjustments as needed.
Composition
Each Zactos tablet contains 30 mg of pioglitazone as the active ingredient, as well as excipients necessary for its formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or any of the excipients. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Additionally, its use is not recommended in those with a history of congestive heart failure or in cases of active liver disease.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Zactos to patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, renal failure, liver diseases, or those taking medications that may affect liver function. It is advisable to periodically monitor liver function and cardiovascular health in patients undergoing treatment.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
