Indications
Xigduo XR is indicated as adjunctive treatment in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who have not achieved adequate blood glucose control through diet and exercise, as well as in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs. The combination of dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and metformin, a biguanide, improves glycemic control by acting on different mechanisms. This medication can be used in overweight patients, as it may contribute to weight loss.
Composition
Each Xigduo XR tablet contains 10 mg of dapagliflozin and 1000 mg of metformin, in addition to the excipients necessary for the tablet formulation.
Contraindications
It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula, severe renal insufficiency (Glomerular Filtration Rate < 30 ml/min), diabetic ketoacidosis, and in patients with severe dehydration. It is also contraindicated in those with a history of pancreatitis, as well as in conditions that may predispose to lactic acidosis.
Precautions
Renal function should be monitored before initiating treatment and during its use. Caution is important in patients using diuretics, as these can increase the risk of dehydration. Additionally, caution should be exercised in patients with a history of urinary tract infections, as well as those at high risk of developing lactic acidosis. Its use in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas is not recommended without proper supervision.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
