Indications
Wegovy (Semaglutide) is indicated as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight management in adults with overweight or obesity. This medication is suitable for patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or greater (obesity) or a BMI of 27 kg/m² or greater (overweight) in the presence of weight-related comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemia. Wegovy acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, promoting satiety and decreasing appetite, thereby assisting in long-term body weight control.
Composition
Each Wegovy pen contains Semaglutide 0.5 mg per dose. Additionally, it contains excipients such as water for injection, sodium phosphate, and other components that facilitate its administration.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Semaglutide or any of the excipients of the medication. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of acute pancreatitis. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe gastrointestinal diseases that may affect drug absorption.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney or liver disease. Wegovy may cause gastrointestinal side effects, so it is recommended to start treatment at low doses and increase gradually. Monitor patients for signs of pancreatitis and adjust the dose if necessary. The possibility of hypoglycemia should also be considered, especially in patients receiving treatment for diabetes.
Storage
Store in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Once opened, the medication can be stored at room temperature (up to 30°C) for a maximum of 28 days. Keep out of reach of children.
