Indications

Vytorin is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, as an adjunct to diet. This medication is used in adult patients with elevated levels of LDL cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein) and triglycerides, as well as in those with low levels of HDL cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein). Additionally, Vytorin can be used in patients with established cardiovascular disease to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. It is recommended that Vytorin therapy be part of a comprehensive approach that includes lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and weight management.

Composition

Each Vytorin tablet contains 10 mg of Ezetimibe and 40 mg of Simvastatin. Excipients include: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its components. It is also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease, unexplained elevations of serum transaminases, as well as in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Its use is not recommended in patients who are concurrently receiving other medications that may increase the risk of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis.

Precautions

Liver function tests should be performed before initiating treatment and during therapy. Vytorin should be used with caution in patients who consume excessive alcohol or who have a history of muscle diseases. Patients should be monitored for signs of muscle weakness or pain, especially at the start of treatment or when increasing the dose.

Storage

Vytorin should be stored at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
