Indications
Vytorin is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) and mixed dyslipidemia in adults. This medication is used as an adjunct to an appropriate diet to reduce total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and apolipoprotein B levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia. In addition, it is used in patients with established cardiovascular disease to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Vytorin administration may be considered in patients who cannot control their cholesterol with lifestyle changes alone.
Composition
Each Vytorin tablet contains: 10 mg of Ezetimibe and 10 mg of Simvastatin. Excipients include: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, starch, among others.
Contraindications
Vytorin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Ezetimibe, Simvastatin, or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease and in those with elevated transaminase levels. It should not be administered during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, as well as in those who consume excessive alcohol. It is important to monitor liver enzymes before and during treatment. Additionally, care should be taken in patients with conditions that predispose to myopathy, such as hypothyroidism or renal insufficiency.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
