Indications
Vodelan is indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by ciprofloxacin-sensitive organisms, as well as for the management of pain and discomfort associated with these infections, thanks to the action of phenazopyridine. This medication is useful in cases of cystitis, pyelonephritis, and other acute urinary tract infections, where a combined approach is required for infection control and discomfort reduction. It is important to consider that ciprofloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics, which act by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis, while phenazopyridine provides symptomatic relief by acting as a local analgesic in the urinary tract.
Composition
Each Vodelan tablet contains 500 mg of ciprofloxacin and 100 mg of phenazopyridine as active ingredients. Additionally, it may contain excipients such as starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other inactive components necessary for the formulation.
Contraindications
Vodelan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, phenazopyridine, or any component of the formula. It should not be used in patients with severe kidney disease, as this can affect the elimination of the active components of the medication. Likewise, its use is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, unless expressly indicated by a physician.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of kidney disease, neurological disorders, or those being treated with other medications that may affect kidney function. Renal function monitoring is suggested during treatment. People with diabetes should be careful, as phenazopyridine can cause changes in urine color.
