Indications

Spironolactone is indicated for the treatment of arterial hypertension, as well as in cases of congestive heart failure. Additionally, it is used in the management of edema associated with liver diseases, such as cirrhosis, and in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome. It is also prescribed for hypokalemia and as part of the therapy in patients with primary or secondary hyperaldosteronism. Its use is appropriate in patients who require a potassium-sparing diuretic, thus preventing excessive loss of this electrolyte.

Composition

Each Vivitar tablet contains 100 mg of spironolactone as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that facilitate the formulation of the medication.

Contraindications

Spironolactone is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to spironolactone or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to individuals with acute renal failure or kidney disease that causes oliguria, as well as in those with elevated serum potassium levels (hyperkalemia). It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, unless specifically indicated by a physician.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering spironolactone in patients with liver diseases, kidney disorders, or those taking other medications that affect potassium levels. Regular monitoring of serum electrolytes, especially potassium, is recommended during treatment. Likewise, care should be taken with the concomitant use of diuretics and other antihypertensive drugs, as they may potentiate the effect of spironolactone.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
