Indications
Vimpat is indicated as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy for partial onset seizures in adults and children over 4 years of age. Its mechanism of action is based on the modulation of voltage-gated sodium channel activity, which contributes to stabilizing neuronal excitability. This medication can be used in patients who have not responded adequately to other antiepileptics, offering an additional option for seizure control. In addition, its use in the treatment of seizures in patients with refractory epilepsy has been evaluated.
Composition
Each Vimpat tablet contains 50 mg of lacosamide as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Vimpat is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lacosamide or to any of the product's excipients. Its use should also be avoided in patients with second- or third-degree atrioventricular block without an implanted pacemaker.
Precautions
Vimpat should be used with caution in patients with pre-existing heart disease, as well as in those with a history of cardiac rhythm disorders. Dose adjustment should be considered in patients with renal insufficiency. Furthermore, it is essential to closely monitor patients during treatment, especially at the beginning and when modifying the dose, due to the potential risk of adverse effects.
Storage
Store Vimpat at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
