Indications

Vimpat (lacosamide) is indicated as adjunctive therapy in adult and pediatric patients aged 4 years and older with partial epilepsy who are not adequately controlled with other antiepileptic drugs. The efficacy of Vimpat has been demonstrated in clinical trials to reduce the frequency of epileptic seizures. Additionally, its use is recommended in patients with focal seizures that may generalize. It is essential that treatment be supervised by a neurologist or epileptologist, who will determine the appropriate dose and duration of treatment according to the patient's individual needs.

Composition

Each tablet contains 150 mg of lacosamide. Excipients include: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Vimpat is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lacosamide or any of the excipients in the formula. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe renal failure requiring dialysis, as well as in those with a history of heart block or severe arrhythmias.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of heart problems, as lacosamide may cause PR interval prolongation and alterations in cardiac conduction. Likewise, it is recommended to monitor the patient's condition in case of adverse effects during treatment. The medication should not be abruptly discontinued, as this may increase the risk of epileptic seizures.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep in a dry place and protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
