Indications

Vimpat is indicated as adjunctive treatment in adult and pediatric patients from 4 years of age with partial-onset seizures, with or without secondary generalization, in the context of combined antiepileptic therapy. It can also be used as monotherapy in adults initiating treatment for epilepsy. Lacosamide acts by modulating sodium channel inactivation, which helps stabilize the neuronal membrane and reduce neuronal excitability, thus helping to control epileptic seizures.

Composition

Each Vimpat tablet contains 100 mg of lacosamide, in addition to excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medicine.

Contraindications

Vimpat is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lacosamide or any of the excipients in the formula. It should also be avoided in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Precautions

Caution is recommended in patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias or cardiac conduction problems. Likewise, dose reduction should be considered in patients over 65 years of age and in those with renal impairment. Regular clinical follow-up is important to assess the efficacy and tolerability of the treatment.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep in its original packaging and out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
