Indications
Victoza is indicated as a treatment to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in combination with diet and exercise. It is also used to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes and existing cardiovascular disease. Additionally, it can be administered in overweight or obese patients as part of a comprehensive weight management program. This medication acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which promotes glucose-dependent insulin secretion, inhibits glucagon secretion, and delays gastric emptying.
Composition
Each milliliter of Victoza contains 6 mg of liraglutide. Excipients include: hydrochloric acid, water for injection, and others.
Contraindications
Victoza is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to liraglutide or any of the product's excipients. It should not be used in patients with a history of pancreatitis or in those with type 1 diabetes. Likewise, it is contraindicated in pregnant or lactating women and in patients with severe renal disease requiring dialysis.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of pancreatitis, kidney or liver disease, as well as in those who may experience episodes of hypoglycemia. It is important to monitor renal function and adjust the dose as needed. It should not be mixed with insulin or administered intravenously.
Storage
Victoza should be stored in the refrigerator between 2 °C and 8 °C. Once opened, it can be stored at room temperature (maximum 30 °C) for 30 days. Do not expose to direct light and keep out of reach of children.
