Indications
Vick 44 is indicated for the temporary relief of cough and to help loosen phlegm in the chest, thus facilitating the expulsion of secretions. This syrup combines two active ingredients, guaifenesin, an expectorant that helps reduce mucus viscosity, and dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant that acts on the cough center in the brain. Its use is recommended in cases of dry or productive cough associated with common colds, bronchitis, and other respiratory conditions where a cough with or without mucus is present.
Composition
Each 5 mL of syrup contains:
- Guaifenesin: 1.33 g
- Dextromethorphan: 0.133 g
Contraindications
Vick 44 should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients who have been taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last 14 days, as it can cause serious adverse reactions.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of respiratory diseases, such as asthma or COPD, as well as in those with a history of chronic use of cough medications. Its use in combination with other cough suppressants or expectorants without medical supervision is not recommended. If the cough persists for more than 7 days, a doctor should be consulted.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from direct light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
