Indications
Velcade (Bortezomib) is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with multiple myeloma who have received at least one prior therapy, as well as in combination with methotrexate, prednisone, and thalidomide. It is also used in patients with mantle cell lymphoma who have received at least one prior therapy. Its mechanism of action is based on proteasome inhibition, leading to the accumulation of pro-apoptotic proteins and, consequently, to cell death in tumor cells.
Composition
Each Velcade ampoule contains 3.5 mg of Bortezomib, as well as necessary excipients for its formulation.
Contraindications
Velcade is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to bortezomib or any component of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with untreated severe peripheral neuropathy.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of peripheral neuropathy, as well as in those with hepatic or renal problems. Patients should be regularly monitored for signs of adverse reactions, especially those receiving concomitant treatment with other neurotoxic agents. Additionally, care should be taken when administering to elderly patients or those with pre-existing medical conditions.
Storage
Velcade should be stored at temperatures between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Keep in the original container to protect it from light and keep out of reach of children.
