Indications
Vectibix is indicated for the treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer who express epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and have previously received fluoropyrimidine-based, oxaliplatin, and irinotecan chemotherapy. This medication can be used in combination with chemotherapy or as monotherapy in patients whose tumors are not susceptible to conventional therapy. Vectibix therapy should be considered in the context of a comprehensive treatment that includes the evaluation of KRAS gene mutational status, as its effectiveness has been demonstrated in patients with tumors exhibiting a non-mutated KRAS status.
Composition
Each Vectibix vial contains 100 mg of panitumumab and excipients that ensure the product's stability and effectiveness. For a complete list of excipients, consult the product labeling.
Contraindications
Vectibix is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to panitumumab or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of severe adverse reactions associated with monoclonal antibody therapy.
Precautions
Precautions should be considered in patients with a history of interstitial lung disease, as Vectibix may aggravate these conditions. Monitoring of liver function and the appearance of skin reactions is also recommended, as these can be common during treatment. Patients are advised to stay well hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure due to the possibility of skin reactions.
Storage
Vectibix should be stored in refrigeration between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Keep the medication in its original packaging and out of reach of children.
