Indications
Valvulan is indicated for the treatment of various heart conditions. Its main use is in congestive heart failure, where it helps improve heart contractility, which in turn contributes to increasing cardiac output. Additionally, it is useful in managing certain arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, as it helps control heart rate. Digoxin acts by inhibiting the Na+/K+ ATPase enzyme, which results in an increase in intracellular calcium in myocardial cells, thereby improving heart function.
Composition
Each Valvulan tablet contains: 0.25 mg of digoxin, plus excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
Valvulan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to digoxin or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered in cases of second and third-degree atrioventricular block without a pacemaker, as well as in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and those with uncontrolled blood pressure.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Valvulan to patients with kidney diseases, as digoxin is primarily excreted renally. It is also recommended to monitor blood potassium levels, as hypokalemia can increase the risk of digoxin toxicity. It is essential to adjust the dose in elderly patients or those with impaired renal function.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
