Indications

Valextra is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by the herpes simplex virus in adults and children over 12 years of age. It is effective in the treatment of cold sores, genital herpes, and for the prevention of recurrent episodes of these infections. Additionally, Valextra is used in the treatment of chickenpox and in the prevention of cytomegalovirus infections in immunocompromised patients. It is recommended to start treatment as soon as possible after the onset of symptoms for best results.

Composition

Each Valextra tablet contains 500 mg of valacyclovir as the active ingredient. Excipients include: microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, and others.

Contraindications

Valextra is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to valacyclovir, acyclovir, or any of the excipients in the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency, as well as in those with significant dehydration.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Valextra to patients with a history of kidney disease, as a dosage adjustment may be required. Furthermore, it is recommended to monitor patients treated with Valextra who present with dehydration or who are receiving treatment with other medications that affect renal function. In case of neurological symptoms, the possibility of valacyclovir toxicity should be considered.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
