Presentation

100 mg with 40 capsules

Laboratory

Indications

Macrodantina is indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to nitrofurantoin. These infections may include acute cystitis, pyelonephritis, and other lower urinary tract infections. Nitrofurantoin works by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins, DNA, and RNA in bacteria, leading to their death. It is important that the use of this medication is prescribed and supervised by a physician, who will determine the duration of treatment and the appropriate dose according to the severity of the infection and the patient's response to treatment. In addition, the sensitivity of the microorganism causing the infection to this antibiotic should be considered.

Composition

Each capsule contains 100 mg of nitrofurantoin as the active ingredient. Excipients include: starch, gelatin, and other components that aid in the formulation of the medication.

Contraindications

Macrodantina is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to nitrofurantoin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency, as nitrofurantoin is mainly excreted through the kidneys and its accumulation can lead to toxicity. Its use is not recommended in pregnant women during the last trimester due to the risk of hemolysis in the newborn.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when using Macrodantina in patients with a history of pulmonary diseases, liver diseases, diabetes mellitus, or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Additionally, renal function should be monitored during treatment, especially in elderly patients or those with compromised renal function.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.

Consult your doctor.
