Indications
Lopid is indicated for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia and mixed dyslipidemia in patients who do not achieve adequate control of their lipid levels through diet and exercise. It is useful in reducing blood triglyceride levels and improving the overall lipid profile. Its use is recommended in combination with lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, to maximize its therapeutic effects. This medication may be considered for patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease, where the reduction of triglyceride levels is an important therapeutic goal.
Composition
Each Lopid tablet contains 900 mg of gemfibrozil as the active ingredient. Excipients: starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to gemfibrozil or to any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be used in people with severe liver disease, severe kidney disease, or in those with gallstones. Likewise, its use is contraindicated in patients who are receiving certain medications, such as statins, due to the high risk of developing myopathies.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of biliary disease, hepatic or renal dysfunction. It is important to monitor transaminase levels and renal function during treatment. A risk-benefit assessment is recommended in patients over 65 years of age, as well as in those with pre-existing cardiovascular disease.
