Indications
Lipitor is indicated for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also used for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with atherosclerotic heart disease, as well as in those with type 2 diabetes and other risk factors. Its mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, resulting in a decrease in cholesterol production in the liver.
Composition
Each tablet contains: Atorvastatin 20 mg as active ingredient. Excipients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any of the excipients of the formulation, active liver disease, and in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Furthermore, it should not be administered in combination with certain medications that may increase the risk of myopathy.
Precautions
Caution is advised in patients with a history of liver disease, renal insufficiency, or in those who consume excessive alcohol. It is important to perform liver function tests before and during treatment. Concomitant use with other medications that affect atorvastatin metabolism should be carefully evaluated.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep the product in its original packaging and out of reach of children.
