Indications
Lipitor is indicated for the reduction of elevated levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and triglycerides in adults and children over 10 years of age. It is also indicated for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases in patients with risk factors, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or a family history of premature heart disease. Its use is recommended as an adjunct to an appropriate lipid-lowering diet and exercise programs.
Composition
Each tablet contains 10 mg of atorvastatin, as well as excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, lactose, starch, talc, and magnesium stearate.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered to patients with active liver disease or with persistent and unexplained elevations in serum transaminases. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, excessive alcohol consumption, or in those with conditions that may predispose to myopathy. Monitoring of liver enzyme levels and muscle function is recommended, especially in patients taking high doses of atorvastatin or receiving medications that may increase the risk of myopathy.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place and out of reach of children. Protect from direct light.
