Indications
Glitacar-1 (Pioglitazone) is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medication is used in patients who have not achieved adequate blood glucose control with metformin, or as combination therapy with other oral antidiabetics. It can also be used as monotherapy if metformin is not appropriate.
Pioglitazone acts as a PPAR-gamma receptor agonist, improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues and reducing glucose production by the liver. Its use has been shown to lead to a reduction in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and, in some cases, weight loss in overweight patients.
Composition
Each Glitacar-1 tablet contains 15 mg of pioglitazone, in addition to excipients that facilitate its formulation and stability.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or any of the components of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe heart failure, and in those with a history of bladder cancer.
Precautions
It is important to evaluate cardiac function before starting treatment with Glitacar-1, as pioglitazone may increase the risk of heart failure. Patients should be monitored for signs of edema, weight gain, and dyspnea. In addition, caution should be exercised in patients with a history of bone fractures or who are being treated with other medications that may affect bone density.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
