Indications
Arava is indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in adults. Its use is suitable for patients who require long-term treatment to control disease progression and reduce associated symptoms such as joint pain and inflammation. In addition, it is used in the management of autoimmune diseases, where the aim is to modify the body's immune response. Arava acts by inhibiting pyrimidine synthesis, which in turn decreases lymphocyte activation and proliferation, contributing to the reduction of inflammation and joint damage.
Composition
Each Arava tablet contains 20 mg of leflunomide as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as lactose, starch, microcrystalline cellulose, among others, which allow for the proper formulation of the medicine.
Contraindications
Arava is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to leflunomide or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe liver diseases or liver failure, as well as in those with uncontrolled severe infections.
Precautions
Regular monitoring of liver function is recommended during treatment with Arava, due to the risk of hepatotoxicity. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of recurrent infections, as the medication may increase the risk of infections due to its immunosuppressive effect. The use of Arava should be carefully evaluated in patients with a history of high blood pressure or heart disease.
Storage
Arava should be stored in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children and protect from direct light.
