Indications

Arava (Leflunomide) is indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in adults, as well as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Its use is focused on reducing inflammation and joint damage, improving patients' quality of life. It is also used in the management of psoriasis and in some cases of Crohn's disease. Leflunomide acts by inhibiting the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes, which decreases immune system activity and, consequently, the inflammatory response in these conditions.

Composition

Each Arava tablet contains 100 mg of leflunomide, in addition to excipients necessary for its formulation. Leflunomide is an immunosuppressant that acts on the metabolism of lymphocytes, which helps control immune system activity in autoimmune diseases.

Contraindications

Arava is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to leflunomide or any of its components. It should not be administered to patients with severe hepatic impairment, during pregnancy, or in women who plan to conceive, due to the risks of teratogenicity. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe active infections and in those with significant hematological abnormalities.

Precautions

Liver function tests should be performed before and during treatment with Arava, as it can cause hepatotoxicity. It is recommended to periodically monitor blood pressure and hematological parameters. In addition, it is important to consider the risk of infections due to the immunosuppression that the medication can induce. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of lung diseases or who have conditions that increase the risk of infections.

Storage

Store Arava at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep the medication out of reach of children.
