Indications
Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Suspension is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to the components of this medication. It is commonly used for respiratory tract infections, such as sinusitis, otitis media, and pneumonia; urinary tract infections; skin and soft tissue infections; and other acute and chronic bacterial infections. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate allows for broader coverage, optimizing treatment effectiveness against pathogens that may produce beta-lactamase.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains: 200 mg of Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) and 28.57 mg of Potassium Clavulanate (as potassium salt).
Contraindications
Amoxicillin/Clavulanate is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins, clavulanate, or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use should also be avoided in cases of viral infections, as inappropriate antibiotic use can promote bacterial resistance.
Precautions
It should be used with caution in patients with a history of liver or kidney disease. During treatment, monitoring of liver and kidney function is recommended. In case of allergic reactions, treatment should be discontinued and medical attention sought. Likewise, the use of this medication in pregnant and breastfeeding women should only be considered if the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children. Once opened, the suspension should be used within 14 days and should not be frozen.
