Indications

Amcef IV is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections in adults and children that require parenteral therapy. It is effective in the management of lower respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia and bronchitis; urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis; abdominal infections, such as peritonitis and intra-abdominal abscesses; bone and joint infections, such as osteomyelitis; and bacterial meningitis. Its use also extends to surgical prophylaxis in procedures where postoperative infections are anticipated.

Composition

Each ampoule of Amcef IV contains ceftriaxone sodium equivalent to 1 g of ceftriaxone.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone, to other cephalosporin antibiotics, or to any of the components of the formulation. Its use should also be avoided in patients with a history of severe anaphylactic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis. It is important to monitor renal and hepatic function, as well as coagulation, during ceftriaxone treatment, given the risk of alterations. Furthermore, in cases of concomitant administration with other medications, the possibility of drug interactions should be evaluated.

Storage

Amcef IV should be stored at room temperature, in a cool, dry place, protected from light. The ampoules should be kept in their original packaging until use. The product should not be used after the expiry date indicated on the package.
