Indications

Amaryl is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, as part of a management strategy that may include diet and exercise. It is used in patients who cannot achieve adequate blood glucose control with diet and exercise alone. This medication is effective in reducing blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin release from the pancreas and improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. Amaryl can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin.

Composition

Each Amaryl tablet contains 4 mg of glimepiride as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation. The exact composition of the excipients may vary, so it is recommended to consult the product leaflet for detailed information on its composition.

Contraindications

Amaryl is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to glimepiride or any component of the product. It is also contraindicated in those with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, and in situations of severe illness, severe infections, or in case of major surgery. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe hepatic or renal insufficiency.

Precautions

Caution is advised when using Amaryl in patients with a history of liver, kidney, or cardiovascular diseases. Regular monitoring of blood glucose is important to avoid episodes of hypoglycemia. Patients should also be informed about the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to act if they occur.

Storage

Amaryl should be stored at room temperature, in a dry place protected from light, out of the reach of children. Do not use the medication after the expiration date indicated on the package.
