Indications

Vancomycin is indicated for the treatment of severe infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. It is used in the treatment of endocarditis, osteomyelitis, pneumonia, and central nervous system infections. It is also indicated in patients with penicillin allergy and in those with enterococcal infections. Its use should be considered in infections in immunocompromised patients and in situations where empirical therapy for severe infections is required.

Composition

Each Alvarcin ampoule contains 500 mg of vancomycin as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate its intravenous administration.

Contraindications

Vancomycin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to vancomycin or any of its excipients. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe renal insufficiency without adequate monitoring of plasma levels.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney disease, as vancomycin can cause renal toxicity. It is important to monitor renal function and vancomycin plasma levels, especially during prolonged treatments. Auditory function should also be evaluated, as there may be a risk of ototoxicity.

Storage

Alvarcin should be stored at room temperature, protected from light, and in a dry place. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the package.
