Indications

Alimta is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), as well as for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma. This medication is used in combination with cisplatin for the treatment of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma who have not previously received chemotherapy. Additionally, Alimta has been shown to be effective as maintenance treatment in NSCLC patients whose disease has not progressed after platinum-based chemotherapy.

Composition

Each vial of Alimta contains 500 mg of pemetrexed as the active ingredient. Excipients are: mannitol, hydrochloric acid, and water for injection.

Contraindications

Alimta is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pemetrexed or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 45 ml/min).

Precautions

Special caution should be exercised in patients with compromised renal function, as well as in those who are being treated with medications that may cause hematologic toxicity. It is recommended to monitor hemoglobin, leukocyte, and platelet levels before each treatment cycle. Furthermore, it is important to consider the administration of folic acid and vitamin B12 to prevent hematologic toxicities associated with pemetrexed treatment.

Storage

Alimta should be stored at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C. Protect from heat and light. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
