Indications
Zoledronic acid is indicated for the treatment of hypercalcemia induced by malignant tumors. It is also used in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in cancer patients, as well as in the reduction of skeletal-related events in patients with bone metastases. This medication works by inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, which helps stabilize bone structure and decrease the risk of pathological fractures. Additionally, it is effective in the treatment of Paget's disease of bone.
Composition
Each 5 ml ampoule contains 4 mg of zoledronic acid as the active ingredient, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
Zoledronic acid is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to this medication or any of its components. It should not be administered to patients with severe renal impairment or those with severe dehydration. Its use is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney problems, as zoledronic acid may affect renal function. The patient's hydration status should also be assessed before administering the medication. Renal function tests are recommended before and during treatment. In patients with bone health alterations, the response to treatment should be monitored.
Storage
Store refrigerated between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and protect from light. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the package.
