Indications
Alendronic acid is indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women and men, as well as for the prevention of fractures in these patients. It is also used in the treatment of Paget's disease of the bone. This medication works by inhibiting bone resorption, which helps to increase bone mineral density and decrease the risk of fractures. Its use is recommended in patients with a high risk of fractures, as well as in those who have suffered previous fractures related to osteoporosis.
Composition
Each tablet contains 10 mg of alendronic acid as the active ingredient. Excipients: lactose monohydrate, starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypocalcemia, esophageal diseases that delay esophageal emptying, and in those who have hypersensitivity to alendronic acid or any of its components. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe renal insufficiency and in those who cannot remain upright for at least 30 minutes after administration.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal ulcers, as well as in those with moderate kidney disease. Renal function should be monitored before and during treatment. Prolonged use may be associated with adverse effects on the skeletal system, so the need to continue treatment should be evaluated regularly.
Storage
The medication should be stored at room temperature, in a dry place and protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
