Indications
Acetylsalicylic acid is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate pain, as well as for fever reduction. It is also used in the prophylaxis of cardiovascular events in patients at risk of thrombosis, myocardial infarction, and cerebrovascular accidents. This medication works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, which contributes to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. It is important to follow the instructions of a healthcare professional to determine the dose and duration of treatment, as well as to assess the risks and benefits in each particular case.
Composition
Each tablet contains 500 mg of acetylsalicylic acid as an active ingredient, in addition to excipients that allow for the formulation of the medicine.
Contraindications
The use of acetylsalicylic acid is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is also contraindicated in cases of active gastric ulcer, bleeding disorders, severe liver or kidney failure, as well as in the third trimester of pregnancy. Its use is not recommended in children and adolescents with viral infections due to the risk of Reye's syndrome.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of peptic ulcer, asthma, liver or kidney disease, hypertension, or those taking anticoagulants. It is essential to assess the risk-benefit ratio before initiating treatment. Furthermore, alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment, as it may increase the risk of bleeding.
