Indications
Kolistate (Colistimethate) is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by colistin-sensitive microorganisms. It is especially useful in respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as in intra-abdominal and central nervous system infections. Its use is recommended in patients with multi-drug resistant bacterial infections where other antibiotics have failed or are not appropriate. It can also be used for the prophylaxis of infections in immunocompromised patients or in high-risk surgical situations.
Composition
Each Kolistate ampule contains 150 mg of Colistimethate sodium as the active ingredient. Excipients include: water for injection and other inactive components that allow for the proper formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Kolistate is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to colistin or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe renal insufficiency without adequate monitoring, as it may increase the risk of renal and neuromuscular toxicity.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of neuromuscular diseases, as well as in those with compromised renal function. It is essential to monitor renal function during treatment and to be alert for any symptoms of toxicity. Prolonged use of this antibiotic without proper medical evaluation and supervision is not recommended.
Storage
Store at room temperature, in a cool, dry place, protected from direct light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
