Indications

Brimex is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by acyclovir-sensitive viruses. It is primarily used in the management of herpetic infections, including cold sores, genital herpes, and herpes zoster. Additionally, it is prescribed for the treatment of chickenpox in immunocompromised patients and for the prophylaxis of infections in immunocompromised patients. Acyclovir works by interfering with viral DNA replication, which helps control the spread of the virus in the body.

Composition

Each Brimex tablet contains 400 mg of acyclovir as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation and absorption.

Contraindications

Brimex is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to acyclovir or any other component of the formula. Likewise, its use should be evaluated in patients with a history of severe kidney disease, as acyclovir is primarily eliminated renally. Its use during pregnancy and lactation is recommended to be avoided unless strictly necessary and under the supervision of a doctor.

Precautions

Medical follow-up is important during treatment with Brimex, especially in patients with compromised kidney function, as drug accumulation and toxicity may occur. Caution should also be exercised in dehydrated patients or those receiving other nephrotoxic medications. Adequate hydration during treatment is suggested to prevent acyclovir precipitation in the renal tubules.
