Indications
Puribel, whose active ingredient is allopurinol, is indicated in the treatment of primary or secondary hyperuricemia, which can occur in various clinical conditions such as gout, urate nephropathy, and in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy who have elevated uric acid levels. It is used to prevent the formation of urate kidney stones and to treat acute gout attacks by lowering uric acid levels in plasma and urine. Furthermore, it is effective in the management of some forms of kidney stones.
Composition
Each Puribel tablet contains 300 mg of allopurinol as the active ingredient. Excipients include corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and other inert components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Puribel is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to allopurinol or to any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered during acute gout attacks. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe liver or kidney disease, as well as in those with a history of severe adverse reactions to other medications of the same class.
Precautions
Monitoring renal and hepatic function is recommended in patients treated with allopurinol, as well as evaluating uric acid levels. It is prudent to start treatment with low doses and increase gradually to minimize the risk of adverse reactions. Patients with a history of cardiovascular disease should be carefully evaluated before starting treatment.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children and protect from direct light.
