Indications
Prasiver is indicated for the reduction of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia. It is also used in the treatment of mixed dyslipidemias. In addition, this medication may be prescribed for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with established cardiovascular disease or those at high risk of developing heart disease.
Pravastatin acts by inhibiting the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, which leads to a decrease in cholesterol synthesis in the liver and, consequently, to a reduction in blood cholesterol levels. Its beneficial effect extends to improving endothelial function and stabilizing atherosclerotic plaques.
Composition
Each Prasiver tablet contains 10 mg of pravastatin and excipients necessary for the drug's formulation.
Contraindications
Prasiver is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pravastatin or any of the formulation components. It should not be used in patients with active liver disease or with persistent elevations of transaminases. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions
It is important to assess liver function before starting treatment and to monitor it regularly during use. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of muscle disease, as well as in those who consume large amounts of alcohol. Monitoring is also recommended in patients taking other medications that may interact with pravastatin.
Storage
Store Prasiver at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
