Indications
Perjeta (pertuzumab) is indicated in combination with trastuzumab and chemotherapy for the treatment of adult patients with HER2-positive early breast cancer, as well as in patients with metastatic disease. In the case of early breast cancer, its use is recommended as part of a neoadjuvant regimen to reduce tumor size before surgery. In the context of metastatic disease, Perjeta is indicated in patients who have not received prior treatment for their metastatic disease and who have HER2-positive tumors. Treatment with Perjeta should be administered under the supervision of a physician experienced in the use of oncology therapies.
Composition
Each vial of Perjeta contains 420 mg of pertuzumab as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation and stability. The detailed composition of excipients can be found in the product leaflet.
Contraindications
Perjeta is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pertuzumab or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks. Its use should be avoided in patients with severe heart disease, including uncontrolled congestive heart failure.
Precautions
Special care should be taken in patients with a history of heart failure or compromised cardiac function, as treatment with Perjeta may cause decreases in left ventricular ejection fraction. Cardiac evaluation is recommended before starting treatment and during its use. In addition, careful monitoring of signs and symptoms of allergic reactions should be maintained during drug administration.
Storage
Perjeta should be stored in its original packaging at a temperature between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
