Indications
Pentrexyl (Ampicillin) is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is effective in respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia, acute and chronic bronchitis, as well as ear, nose, and throat infections. It is also used in urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and in cases of bacterial meningitis. Pentrexyl is useful in the treatment of infections in immunocompromised patients and those with infected wounds.
Composition
Each Pentrexyl capsule contains 500 mg of Ampicillin. It also contains excipients that facilitate the formulation and stability of the medication.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ampicillin or other penicillin-class antibiotics. It should also be avoided in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to any component of the formula.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with kidney disease, as the dosage may require adjustment. Likewise, in patients with a history of allergies, close monitoring is recommended. The use of this medication can cause superinfections due to the alteration of normal flora, so the patient should be monitored during treatment. Its use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation unless the benefits outweigh the risks.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
