Indications
Oppelver Syrup is a medication primarily used for the treatment of constipation. Lactulose, its active ingredient, acts as an osmotic laxative that helps increase the amount of water in the intestine, thereby facilitating intestinal transit. This medication is useful in cases of occasional constipation and in patients who require softer bowel movements. Additionally, it may be indicated for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy, as it helps reduce ammonia levels in the intestine, which can be beneficial in patients with liver diseases. The use of this product is recommended under the supervision of a physician, who will determine the appropriate duration and dosage according to the patient's needs.
Composition
Each 15 ml of syrup contains 10 g of lactulose.
Contraindications
Oppelver is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lactulose or any of the product's excipients. It should not be used in cases of intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation, or in patients with galactosemia, due to the presence of sugars.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Oppelver to patients with diabetes mellitus, as lactulose can affect blood glucose levels. Furthermore, in case of severe abdominal pain or changes in bowel movement frequency, a doctor should be consulted to assess the situation. Prolonged use without medical supervision is not recommended, as it can cause dehydration or electrolyte imbalance.
