Indications

Olmesartan Medoxomil is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. Its use is intended to reduce blood pressure in patients with mild to moderate hypertension, thereby helping to decrease the risk of associated cardiovascular complications such as heart attacks and strokes. This medication works by blocking angiotensin II receptors, which results in the dilation of blood vessels and, consequently, a decrease in blood pressure. It can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensives for better blood pressure control.

Composition

Each Olmesartan Medoxomil tablet contains 20 mg of olmesartan medoxomil as the active ingredient. Additionally, it includes excipients such as starch, lactose, and other compounds that allow for the formulation of the medication.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to olmesartan or any of the excipients in the formula. Its use is not recommended in pregnant women, especially during the second and third trimesters, due to the potential risk to the fetus. It is also contraindicated in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or those with severe renal failure.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Olmesartan Medoxomil to patients with a history of renal insufficiency, heart failure, or those who are being treated with diuretics. Monitoring renal function and blood potassium levels is recommended during treatment. Likewise, the risk of hypotension should be considered in patients with volume depletion or in those initiating antihypertensive treatment.
