Indications
Neulastim is indicated for the reduction of the incidence of febrile neutropenia in patients receiving cytotoxic chemotherapy who have a high risk of developing neutropenia. This medication works by stimulating the production and release of neutrophils in the bone marrow, which helps prevent infections in immunocompromised patients. It is also used in patients with myelodysplasia or who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, as part of the management of neutropenia secondary to these conditions.
Composition
Each Neulastim syringe contains 6 mg of pegfilgrastim, an analogue of human G-CSF (granulocyte colony-stimulating factor) protein, in a volume of 0.6 ml. Excipients include acetic acid, sodium acetate, sodium chloride, and water for injection.
Contraindications
Neulastim is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pegfilgrastim or any of the formulation components. It should not be administered to patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other colony-stimulating factors.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with pre-existing pulmonary diseases or in those who have had adverse reactions to G-CSF. Regular monitoring of white blood cell counts and respiratory function is recommended in patients with a history of lung disease.
Storage
Store refrigerated at 2-8 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
