Indications
Magnesium sulfate is used in various clinical conditions. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypomagnesemia, as well as in situations of preeclampsia and eclampsia in pregnant women, where it helps prevent seizures. It can also be used as an osmotic laxative in the treatment of occasional constipation. Additionally, magnesium sulfate has applications in the management of cardiac arrhythmias, especially in cases of torsades de pointes. In certain circumstances, it is used as supportive therapy in situations of poisoning by certain drugs, such as digitalis. Its administration can be intravenous or intramuscular, depending on the clinical need.
Composition
Each dose contains magnesium sulfate equivalent to 26 grams per powder presentation.
Contraindications
The use of magnesium sulfate is contraindicated in patients with hypermagnesemia, severe kidney disease, atrioventricular block, and in those with an allergy to magnesium sulfate or any of the excipients in the formula.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with chronic kidney disease, as magnesium sulfate can accumulate and cause toxicity. Monitoring blood magnesium levels during treatment is recommended. Likewise, cardiac function should be evaluated, as high doses can cause cardiovascular adverse effects. When administered to pregnant women, the balance between potential benefits and risks should be considered.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
